ZGODOVINA PD DOVJE – MOJSTRANA
The Mountaineering Club Dovje–Mojstrana was established on January 8, 1928, with the founding of the "Triglav Branch of the Slovenian Alpine Club Dovje – Mojstrana." The active school principal - Jožef Serajnik - was elected president. Board members included Gregor Lah (guide), Tone Kovač, Josip Zupan, Anton Rebolj, Franc Potočnik, Janez Rabič, Franc Hafner, and Franc Mandeljc. Additionally, Gregor Klančnik and Rudolf Abruč were elected as auditors.
Our ancestors lived in deep connection with the mountains long before the organized efforts of mountaineering enthusiasts. Harsh living conditions pushed them from the village into the highlands. Activities such as mining, grazing, preparing livestock feed, woodcutting, charcoal burning, and hunting were not pastimes - they were essential for survival. Yet alongside necessity, there was also curiosity, courage, and an irresistible drive to reach the towering peaks of the Julian Alps. Local people were pioneers in exploring these mountains, often making first ascents. For example, Gregor Rabič made the second recorded ascent of Škrlatica in 1883, pioneering a new route via the wall of Spodnji Rokav and descending along the protected path. Another notable figure, mountain guide Janez Košir Jr., achieved the first documented ascent of the Triglav Wall via the Long German Route in 1908. With the arrival of early mountaineers - often called "tourists" at the time - the locals began guiding them through the rugged and often pathless terrain. Historical records show that as early as 1799, locals were guiding dignitaries like District Chief Hohenart along the route through Krma to Velo Polje - Tosc. Under the leadership of the passionate mountaineer and priest Jakob Aljaž, the first Slovenian mountain huts were built on Kredarica, in Vrata, and eventually the Aljaž Tower on Triglav itself. Much of the construction work and trail-building was carried out by the local people. Before establishing their branch, locals were active members of the Central Society Radovljica branch of the Slovenian Alpine Club and later the Kranjska Gora branch. By the time the Triglav Branch of the Alpine Club Dovje – Mojstrana was officially established, more than a hundred members were already enrolled.
