MOUNTAINEERING SECTION
DOVJE - MOJSTRANA
The mountaineering section takes pride in its highly trained alpinists, who from the very beginning laid the foundations of elite alpinism and continue to serve as role models for a new generation of Mojstrana climbers. The Mojstrana Squirrels - an iconic quartet consisting of Klavdij Mlekuž, Zvone Kofler, Janko Ažman, and Janez Brojan - represented a new wave of successful alpinists in Mojstrana. They accomplished numerous demanding ascents in Slovenia and abroad, tackling routes considered elite and exceptionally challenging at the time. As active members of the mountain rescue service station, they also became synonymous with excellence in mountain rescue across Slovenia. Most importantly, they inspired and paved the way for future generations of climbers and rescuers.
Each year, a mountaineering school is organized for those who wish to join the section's activities or gain new knowledge for safer movement in the mountains. The school runs until the end of May and includes lectures, practical exercises, and group tours, through which participants are introduced to the fundamentals of alpinism. Anyone wishing to take the official alpinist exam before the national commission must complete at least three years of training. During this period, they advance through internal exams that test their skills and readiness. Only after fulfilling these requirements, along with the additional criteria set by the Alpinism Commission, can a candidate attempt the final exam to earn independence in alpine ascents. In addition, every Wednesday, the gym at Mojstrana Primary School hosts recreational sessions where section members and other association members train together, maintain their fitness, and enjoy time in good company.
Within the mountaineering section, there is also a sport climbing section, which offers sport climbing activities at the 16th December Primary School in Mojstrana. The gym is rented every Friday from 16:00 to 18:30, during which training sessions are held in organized groups:
– Group 1: children below 7 years old - from 16:00 - 17:15;
- Group 2: children between 8 and 15 years old - from 17:15 - 18:30.
Participants learn to climb on an indoor climbing wall and also visit a natural rock face (Bvaščeva Rock). Training focuses on movement technique, belaying, strength-building, and the development of fundamental motor skills. At the end of the school year, they take part in a two-day camp, where they have the opportunity to apply and test the skills they’ve acquired.
